Team Message

The learning that takes place at this age group is crucial to a child’s development.  Our key focus is on building on the skills, knowledge and understandings developed in the Junior School to ensure a smooth transition into the Middle School as well as to ensure students are well prepared for the exciting new challenges in the Senior School.  In order to achieve this we need to have high expectations of students, teachers and parents.  We believe that a strong home-school partnership is crucial to ensuring students reach their full potential.  Teachers will provide regular homework opportunities for students and we expect parents to support their child with this.   We encourage students to become more responsible for their own learning and choices as well as to become more independent, self motivated learners.  We use our localised curriculum and our Virtues Programme to achieve this.

We provide a wide range of learning experiences that aim to engage and motivate students.  Our programmes are very child-centred where we use up-to-date data to inform our teaching and planning.  Students with identified needs and who are at risk of underachieving may receive in-class or external support from our Learning Assistants.  Our key focus is on getting the basics right.  This includes basic decoding and reading strategies, spelling rules and patterns, letter and number formation, writing correct sentences with accurate punctuation, and understanding basic number patterns. Other important curriculum areas are integrated into our inquiry learning to learn focus.

We encourage students to make the most of every opportunity presented to them.  Students participate in regular skills-based and fitness activities as well as have the opportunity to be part of the Choir, Pasifika, Indian Dance Group, Kapa Haka, after hours music and a number of sports activities and teams.

We provide a range of different ICT tools to use in classroom programmes to support personalised learning opportunities that are both engaging and purposeful.

We value open and honest communication and encourage parents to take an active role in their child’s learning.

Please feel free to visit our classrooms.  If you would like to discuss your child’s learning/behaviour or other matters please contact your child’s teacher to make a time.

We look forward to meeting you all.
